Firefighting is dangerous work and requires extensive training and qualifications. DOF’s full-time agency firefighters meet national level training and fitness testing requirements as outlined by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG). Agency response personnel have a great deal of experience in managing all-hazard incidents, not only in Virginia, but all over the United States.
Qualifications and Pay Matrix for DOF Part-time Wildland Firefighters
DOF hires part-time firefighters on a local level to support the agency’s emergency response mission.
Agency part-time firefighters are expected to meet the same national level standards expected of agency full-time personnel. Part-time firefighters are paid an hourly wage at one of three pay levels, based on their training and practical experience, as outlined in the following matrix:
