The Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF) provides national level training in the areas of wildfire suppression, all-hazard emergency response, and incident management. The training helps to maintain the highest level of expertise in DOF responders and agency cooperators. DOF provides numerous in-state training opportunities each year and promotes national-level opportunities for more specialized training.
Most national-level training is available through this Wildland Fire Learning Portal, which provides the user with a single location to search for wildland fire training classes. The portal has information on contacts, classes, and costs for users looking for wildland fire training.
Virginia Wildland Fire Training
DOF provides a great deal of training in support of its agency and cooperator needs. The agency’s training activities are highlighted by an annual interagency wildland fire training academy typically held the last week of May, usually on the campus of Longwood University in Farmville, VA. Additionally, a regional fall training academy is also held each year, usually in September.
DOF training opportunities will be posted our the DOF calendar. Please check back regularly for the latest information.
